Christie’s Dubai 2017 opening with Iranian artworks drawing attention

  • Christie’s Dubai 2017 opening with Iranian artworks drawing attention

The thing that is very impressive this year is the participation of many Iranian artists in the auction, which apparently aims for Middle East’s art. While this event is taking place in an Arabic country, it is very interesting that there is an artwork of Hosein Zendeh Roodi on the cover of the auction’s catalogue and another one from Ali Banisadr on the back of it; which indicates the attention that is paid to Iranian art and market this year.

There are two catalogues being presented for the artworks; one introduces the artworks that are going to be exhibited and is given before the auction, while the other one contains a list of prices and is available at the auction.

The increase in the number of Iranian artists at Christie’s is quite notable and Iranian artworks have attracted many costumers in few hours after the opening. This is the significant difference between 2017 and previous years.  For instance, there is a booth specialized for Sirak Molkunian that presents 5 pieces of work.
